He studied painting at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin /1899-1902/ under Prof. Giacomo Grosso and attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts /1902-1903/ under Prof. Leo von Löfftz. A war artist during WWI /1914 – 1918/. He was one of the foremost marine artists.
