Medi – Terra, the first solo exhibition in Bulgaria by the social and cultural anthropologist Dostena Laverne was on display in Gallery Dimitar Georgiev from the 6th of June until the 20th June.
Her paintings are a kind of journey into the vast inner cosmos, where natural landscapes and the dynamics of emotions merge into one. Dedicated to the olive tree, the sea and the rhythms of nature, the works from her Medi-Terra exhibition embody the spirit of the Mediterranean and radiate its unique light. The cosmic olive, the dancing figures in the foam of the waves, the softness and power of Nature-Woman, the clouds that water the earth with their heavenly milk, the shadows of the birds-waves on the sand, create an unforgettable image space and transport the viewer to a world where the heavenly and the earthly they reflect each other.
Dostena Laverne says that she chooses to present her paintings in her native Plovdiv, because she connects her first tremors as an artist with the magic and hidden territory of childhood. “Plovdiv is my Ithaca. For me, it is more than a cultural capital, it is my city that has sheltered the whole world in itself like an unsolved secret of the ages, and the people of Plovdiv are precisely the audience that every artist can dream of.”
The exhibition can be viewed from June 6 to 20.
